  • Use of BB or BBB in German Drilling

I have been using BB and BBB for coyote hunting with great success for several years. I am thinking about taking a 12x12/7x65r drilling coyote hunting. The chokes are full.

Will I be causing problems with using the BB? If so I will just use no4 buck.

    What are your thoughts?

    Regards,

    Doug

There should be no problem using lead BB and BBB shot in full choke barrels. Steel or Hevi shot should only be used in barrels rated for it. I used #2 shot and #4 buckshot in 16 ga. full choke barrel, with no problems, and they "bracket" BB and BBB. Subject to getting acceptable patterns, I can't see a reason not to use it. Waidmannsheil,

Hi Doug, My "turkey" drilling AKA the "camp gun" is a 1945 Sauer 12/12 over 8x57JR, 60 cm BbL choked XF & XF. My coyote load for it is 1 1/4 oz of copper plated lead BB shot @ 1350 FPS. The thing shoots a 20" pattern @ 25 yds and is deadly on coyotes. It's the backup gun while calling, for close work. or "pass" shooting

If you hold it right ,the 8mm might kill a coyote too.

You are absolutely correct Mike, A capability I discovered by accident, when I had the rifle selected instead of the shot barrel as a coyote streaked in to nab my rabbit decoy. I swung on him and low & behold the 8x57 knocked him flat.. Whodathunkit ..? Those poor souls who suffer from "magnumitis" (AKA Elmer Keith Syndrome) still won't believe that it happened.
            It's my story & I'm stickin tuit..
