I can't see anyone with that spelling. Could it be Hubner?
Could be, I'm trying to find out some info for a friend. I've not seen the gun (it's a 16ga SxS). He could not see any date info, just the standard Nitro proof marks. He could have got the name mixed up or e is worn/stamped to look like a d ?
Robert Hübner, Ernst-Ludwig-Str. 11, Darmstadt, was a country gunsmith and -dealer. He was born in Zella-Mehlis, most likely a relative to the 4 Z-M Hübners in the guntrade, August, Ernst, Albert and Friedrich, or the 6 Suhl ones, 2 Gebhardt, August, Edgar, Arthur and Emil. In 1917 R.H. took over the gunshop of L.Wesp in Darmstadt. He was still active in 1936. A "Sporthaus Robert Hübner" still exists, http://www.sporthuebner.de/ , but they don`t handle guns any more. Most likely this Robert Hübner retailed your shotgun, but had it made either in Suhl or Zella-Mehlis. A photo of the proofmarks would allow closer identification and dating. There was another R.Hübner in Jauer, Silesia, but as he was active in the 1860s he is an unlikely candidate.
