  • 9.3 Mauser Type A Barrels

I spoke with one of the barrel manufacturers I use, today, about getting a few barrels made with the Type A Mauser profile in 9.3 caliber. I would need to order 10 barrels to facilitate this and wanted to offer it to members here first and see if there was any interest? I will not be making any money on this deal, but would only benefit by getting the profiled barrel at a reasonable cost.

I am confirming pricing, but as I understand it, it will be $235 plus shipping. This is a button rifled barrel of excellent quality by a company called X-Caliber. Lead time is fairly quick.

I realize most members here are interested in older, already built rifles, but like myself, I thought many of you might build them to hunt as well.

Nathaniel, I assume this barrel would not be chambered, just 'A' contour with a 9.3mm bore?

Not really wanting to spend the dollars for an original, I just built myself a 'user' 9X57. Had this deal come up a few months ago, I would reconsider making it a 9.3x?. Keep us in the loop on this. I may have to consider ANOTHER build.

Correct, the barrel would need threaded, chambered to your chosen caliber, and crowned.

Don't overlook the other fine 9.3s. The 9.3x57 and 9.3x64 are great cartridges that work well in 98 actions. These barrels would be great in single shots, set up as 9.3x74R. If you already have a 9.3x62, you could consider one of the others.

9.3x62, 9.3x57, 9.3x64, lots of good choices. I almost bought a "sporterized" 88 that was 9.3x72. I don't know if it was a repeater or not. I considered building a 9.3x74r, on a Siamese action.

I have reamer and gauges for 9.3x64, and intend to get 9.3x62 for a customer job currently.

Personally I am looking forward to having both and seeing how they preform.

Instead of a Siamese, I would suggest a Pattern14 Enfield, for a 9.3x74R;if you insist on a repeater. The Enfield bolt face will fit better and is longer. On the other hand, it will take more work to make it presentable.
