  • JP Sauer 12 ga SxS

Considering selling my 12 gauge JP Sauer Side by Side. I have been told this gun was made in 1906. The gun was delivered in 1907 to a New York dealer and onto my Grandpa. I have no idea how much he might have hunted with the gun but it is in excellent condition. The "tubes" are very clean. I know it has never been used since my grandpa died in the 50's. My father kept it well cared for and oiled in a cedar closet until I got the gun from him around 2003. I have kept it in a safe and well cared for ever since. I was told it 2.5" chambers.

    Kurt,
I know times are hard for all of us, but if I were in your place I would feel like I was selling my Grandpa. The money will be gone soon, and you would only have "stuff" that will be gone in a lot time than the 108 years this fine gun has been in your family. That said, the gun is not mine, it is yours to do with as you please.

THAT is an heirloom that I would never part with as long as I was breathing.

That is a beautiful double. I do not know what your situation is or why you are thinking about selling it, but if it was a firearm handed down to me and in my family since new, I would do everything I could to hold on to it.

A bit of a late response to your post. At first glance it would appear that your shotgun is a Pre-WW1 Sauer and Son grade 60. Value of the piece is extremely high as there were only of few of these ever produced.

As an aside, there was a Pre-WW1 Sauer & Son Grade 60 that sold last year in the Julias Auction for more then $40,000. Best way to sell the piece would likely be via consignment at one of the major dealers or perhapos at one of their (Julia's) auctions. Good luck! It is a nice piece and would be the crown jewel of any Sauer collection! Jeff S.

An even later response. That thing is worthy of a King and if you part with it, I hope you get a fortune for it. Prettiest Sauer I've ever seen. Nice photos by the way.

That is one absolutely stunning Sauer SXS. I'm sure many would like to be the next guy to own it but do give it a lot of thought before you sell it. Sauercollector said it well "... the crown jewel of any Sauer collection".
