I acquired this unique customized Mauser sporterized 7mm Mauser at my local FFL which at the time was difficult to identify. A customer in the shop recognized the action being a pre WW1 made, and I recognized the gunstock which seemed 1960's to 1970's stylized accents similar to rifles in my uncle's large collection I saw as a kid. Also, the rust blue finish was easy to recognize as earlier finish.
Thanks to Member Axel E, the action and barrel and proofs were identified as:
small ring 98AZ carbine action Pre WWI
Gewer 98 magazine box Pre WWI
Max Moeller Octagon Barrel proofed in August 1927 stamped Gussstahl-Krupp-Essen
Praunsmandtl Gebruder Ingolstadt - Retailer that sold the rifle probably late 1920's. Today Praunsmandtl Gebr was in 1927 and still is today a Mercedes Dealer.
Herter's Catalog Ordered Stock could be from 1950's to 1970's period.
I suspect this rifle was tapped for scope mounts here in the United States, and there are two set placements
I have added the:
Timney trigger and set at just under 3 pound pull.
Nikon Prostaff 5 - 3.5x14- 40 mmm adjustable objective scope value at $300 and can be bought with or without the rifle.
The stock on this rifle is very nice and a very good, beautiful stock.
I believe this to be a great opportunity for someone to possibly redo this Max Moeller Barrel and turn this rifle into a premium high scale rifle. My interest have grown deeper into the Mauser rifles as I have acquired a few factory original Mauser rifles in original condition. I feel this rifle with it's parts being known will serve a better use for another person seeking a barrel that may be scarce and hard to find today.
I am seeking to have members make good, fair offers for this rifle which I will give great consideration to all offers and obviously accept a best price.
