I am looking for a rear sight (leaf or ladder only) for a Simson .22 sporter..circa 1930's. I think the Model is 317. I have the base, but would purchase the entire unit.
Thanks!
John
His sight is likely to be a removable target rail type which fits on a 11mm rail. Nothing in common with the sight base you have. Yours is like the one in the photo I posted.
I think I misunderstood the text from Old No7.....I thought his sight was the one in your photo....OOPS!
I'm thinking this is an effort in futility. My concern is getting this rifle to an appreciative owner, as complete as possible. Maybe the best route is sell "as is" and let someone more knowledgable than me locate the sight insert.
John, IMO it will be nearly impossible to find a sight for such an uncommon .22 rifle. I collect the German pre-war .22s and I go to alot of shows. Parts are tough to find, and generally only come from rifles which have been taken apart. That is why I only buy complete rifles, as I have been down that road in the past.
Items such as sights were often made by specialty makers and used on several different rifles, so I wouldn't be too strict and insist on only Simson sight, as long as it matches.

Well,; that pretty much is a wrap for this piece. Shame. Options now I suppose are to scope it, replace rear sight assembly, part it out or sell it. Sure is a nice little gun except for that.
Thanks to DreyseM65 and OldNo7 for the interest shown and help.
