  • WTB Pre-War Oberndorf Mauser Sporter Rifle

    Hi there,

I'm new to the forum and to the world of German sporter rifles, but I've recently become very interested in owning a nice quality Oberndorf Mauser commercial sporting rifle from the pre-war era. I don't have strong preferences for "Type" or configuration but I do have a few "wants":
    • Adjustable tangent rear sight (so I can shoot irons at various ranges)
    • Claw scope mounting system with rings and (ideally) scope (so that I have the option to scope mount, but quickly remove in case I need to switch to backup irons)
    • Double triggers with "set" trigger (although I would also be open to other trigger configurations)

In addition to being a collectible item, this gun would see use in target shooting as well as in the field. So, it need not be a perfect "safe queen" example but it should be in excellent condition with a "perfect" bore and no cracks or significant cosmetic damage to either the wood or metal. Also, all numbers matching (which I understand is not unusual compared to military rifles).

    Preferred calibers are 7x57, 8x57 or .30-06.

I understand these can be rare and expensive and I'm willing to hold out for the right example. I've seen various offerings on GunBroker and Guns International classifieds but I've found that forums such as these often can turn up the best examples with the best information surrounding the rifle's history.

So, if you have a rifle that you aren't using that you'd be interested in passing down to the next generation of shooter/collector, please send me a PM!

    Thanks for your time.

    -Mike
