  • WTB: Old 26mm Optical Sight

Fate has placed in my hands an 1890-1910-esque drilling (J. Reed of Bonn, 16s over 11.15x60R) with claw bases. NECG will hopefully be building rings/mounts. I'm looking for a pre-WWII working optical sight, any reticle, 1.5x, 2.5x, 2.5x up to 4X, 26mm tube; straight or very mild ocular bezel bell. I don't think any objective lens bell would be aesthetically appropriate. Finish is not important, as the old girl was a working gun—nickeled, little-to-no engraving, with plain wood. Anything fancy would clearly overshadow this Belle Age hunter. Old rust pitting, even a ding or serious scratches would be OK, as long as it is completely functional—and affordable.

    Richard,

If you find an appropriate scope that is not functional, GGCA president, Tom Devers knows an Ohio craftsman who repairs and reconditions old Austrian and German scopes.

    Regards,
    Roger

      Dear Roger:

This might be good to know. I was just contacted by a member with some scopes that might be right for this project. Thanks for putting me in the know. Who knows, I might start with a working optic and need repairs along the way.

      All the best, Richard

Friends: Disregard the above. A friend found one in Burbank, CA, and I'm now plotting on how to mount it. It's a 20mm Dr. Walter Gerard from about WW I timeframe. All the best, Richatrd
