I just can’t get enough of them. Found a system Marrkolbe in an internet auction June 8. It was the only schuetzen in the auction, I hoped to get it cheap. Only one person bid against me and they only bid one time. Bidding in an internet auction is like rolling the dice, sometimes they come up 7 and sometimes snake eyes. If it has not been rechambered and the bore is good, then I got a hell of a buy.

It arrived today. I'm not sure what I rolled, the bore was very dirty and leaded. I cleaned it, some pitting but not excessive. Now the thing I didn't know, it has been relined, it is not a 9x47 relined to 8.15x46, the original chamber is there, the liner comes up to the chamber. It has the crown over R proof the barrel slugs .318 . 6 narrow lands and 6 wide grooves. The tan sight is a modern replacement, more about that later. The rifle is marked Wilh. Fleischmann and is marked Neundorf B./Shul. It is a system Marrkolbe, any information about the barrel markings would be appreciated.

I learned from a bad experience that you will be better off if you arrange it so your case necks extend over the joint between the liner and the chamber, so that obturation of the neck stops gasses from flowing into the joint.

Did a chamber cast today. There is a sharp transition between the chamber and the throat.345 to .330 so I won’t be able to extend the brass over the joint of the liner. Over the years I have chamber cast several schuetzen rifles chambered for 8.15x46r, most have no defined chamber end, just taper into the throat. Not the case here, at least I proved it is indeed a 8.15x46r. The barrel is marked 7.6mm not the old gauge marking, I don’t know when the rifles began to use the millimeter marking, no way to date the rifle. My understanding was that the system Marrkolbe wasn’t used much after WW1.

A photo of all the proofmarks would be helpful. Is the mm bore diameter marking relating to the original barrel or the Repair proof of the linered barrel? Was the rifle proofed in Suhl or (more likely) Zella-Mehlis?
The Zella – Mehlis proofhouse changed from the old gauge numbers to millimeters in 1911, Suhl in 1912.
I have nothing about a Wilhelm Fleischmann in Suhl – Neundorf, but a Heinrich Fleischmann, 1868 – 1932, is listed there. A relative?

Mike, on reflection, the rifle I had trouble with didn't have the barrel lined, but the chamber was bushed, and the gasses went around the bushing.

I do not know if this is the right Wilhelm Fleischmann, Suhler-Neundorf, but there is a Gebrauchsmuster 584500 (72a) taken out in the period January 1 to March 31, 1914 by someone going by above name. I do not know what it protected. Maybe someone have Wild und Hund; Deutsche J?ger-Zeitung; Schuss und Waffe or Waidmannsheil from the first quarter-year 1914. It may not be listed in any of the abovementioned publications but this is all I have on Wilhelm Fleischmann.

There were other Fleischmann's working as gun smiths and rifle stockers in Suhler-Neundorf. Wilhelm Fleischmann is not listed after 1924-25. Not to my knowledge, anyway. When he disappeared I do not know. My guess would be in the period 1914-1920.

Heinrich Fleischmann had the address Dorfstra?e 62b, Suhler-Neundorf. In 1932 his widow Lisette/Linette is listed at the address. Heinrich had the title master gunsmith and is listed under rifle factory/gunsmiths shop. Other possible relatives were Emil, master stocker; Rudolf, gunsmith; Otto, gunsmith.

Does anyone know when the Marrkolbe DRGM was taken out?

does crown over B along with the eagle mark represent definitive final proof as there is no crown over U present?
