what does schuetzen mean?

This forum generally is for questions or things pertaining to specifically built German, Austrian, and Swiss rifles used in offhand matches. Ranges are generally 100, 200, or 300 meters. The rifles generally have a lot of drop at the heel and pronged butt plate. The sport was brought to the US by German emigrants. Very popular before WW1. Myself and other have posted photos of this style of rifle.
