  • 2020 NMLRA "Sch?tzen Display & Match"

    Did anyone from here attend this in 2019? I think it was the first year they held it. If so, how was it?

    It looks like the 2020 event scheduled for 28-30 August has not been cancelled yet. Just curious if it might be worth attending.

    If you got your #66 Waidmannsheil you will see a write up on the event on page 10. Unfortunately I did not attend. I go to Friendship in June and September as a vendor and for the last 3 years I have gone back out in October to a stalking rifle shoot nearby. That?s a 8 hour drive for me from PA which I enjoy less and less the older I get. I have been going out for 30 years. We organized a double rifle shoot previously held elsewhere on a piece of the property using life size African animal plywood targets. I had to join in on that and bought an English .500 BPE but found the recoil to much to shoot 20 + shots in a row so I sold it and bought a nice German double hammer black powder rifle from our editor in a 11mm x 47ish caliber which is very pleasant to shoot and won the event the next year. I was the only one using a German made gun that year but as word got out about our double rifle shoot more people wanted to participate but found the English rifles too expensive. I set up a GGCA table in my booth and have a lot of people asking about my guns and have convinced a few people to purchase German made doubles at lower prices to get into the event. Then last year the board of directors decided to add more events to the organization to try to bring more members and money into the organization. A black powder cartridge match and a Schuetzen match was added . They decided to put the double rifle event in with the black powder cartridge event . This would mean I would have to add two more trips to 5 total to attend the shooting only events . Just too far and expensive to do them all. I am a vendor first to make a living so June and September muzzleloader shoots are a must for me. I hope the Schuetzen shoot and display does well and grows. I know there is a lot of interest in it.

      Could you post a picture of Sch?tzenliesel? Next to Hubertus she is an interesting figure in the German Shooting culture.

      Edit: what is with the question mark? I typed a U with the umlaut. Can this not be fixed?

        @Gary; I received my issue #66. It's a nice issue.

        Peter, I share your frustration with the lack of being able to use Umlauts. It is just some sort of system "switch" which needs to be turned on. I moderate 8 sections of a very large militaria discussion forum, and as we were just now migrating to a new vbulletin program, I just tested the functionality of using Umlauts.

        Here is our Schuetzenliesel target. Only a few shooters gave it a try at the last match. Sometimes the target presents as many as 12-15 hits. I downloaded part of it and someone added the ring target. Distorted for some reason, however. Here are also a few of the ASSRA "German 25 Ring" targets we also use.

        Regards,
        Willi
