  • New to the GGCA, interested in schuetzens, have built copies of their diopter sights

Was recently introduced to the GGCA by a friend and decided to join. Bought my first German schuetzen about 1980 and have had one or two ever since. Can't afford to keep them just like to shoot them and pass them on to try out another. Have built probably 40-50 rear diopters for them over the years. If anyone is looking for the rear sights I can probably get one made up for you. Thanks and really enjoy this forum. Ron Heilman

    Hi Ron,
I'm glad to hear from you, it's been a long time. I hope you are doing well.
Everyone else- My cousin Charlie, bought a rear sight from him for BPCR shooting, to fit his Sharps. It was very well built, and there is no doubt Ron can make one to fit any schuetzen that doesn't have one.

Hey Mike, It has been quit a few years. Hope you are doing well. Been staying in the shop working on various projects. Mostly cast bullet military rifle with CBA. I sure miss the deer hunting down south! Ya'll take care. Ron

        Ron,
I'm doing OK, I'm weak and tired all the time, but I about to finish up treatments for prostate cancer and I should start building back up then. I think it would be a good idea if you posted photos of some of your work. From time to time, members ask for a source of sights to get a new acquisition shooting. Also, I suspect more people would buy schuetzens, if they knew of a US source of quality replacements for missing sights. Also, it's not a big jump from cast bullet military rifle, to cast bullets for obsolete German rifle calibers. Also, I have an idea to replace lost claw mounts at a reasonable cost, you might be interested.

Mike, Sorry to hear about the cancer but sounds like you are on the mend. I'll post a few pictures as you suggest. Sights are built to fit customers rifles. Take care and get to feeling better. Ronbuchel sight left crop.jpgBUCHEL SIGHT crop.jpghanaelkksight2 crop.jpgmartini rear crop.jpg

            Ron,
Great work, as usual, they look much better than the modified DGW ones I have seen. Thanks for the concern, I only have one shot left, then testosterone should start building up in 6 months. I can hardly do anything now, haven't done any worthwhile work in my shop in a year. Are you still using the same lathe you had in Alabama?
