  • Need Information on a rifle I have Aquired.

Need help identifying a falling block I inherited. It is rather ornate with engraving & woodwork. On the left upper flat of the receiver near barrel it is engraved with "NURNBERG", on the top flat it has D.R.G.M. CONCURRENZ D.R.G.M., on the right upper flat it has the name H. Lechner. Under the forend on the bottom of the barrel it has 3 proof marks with the letters B, G & U (see photo).
    It also has the following numbers: 7,7 m/m , 9,23 & 631.
The front sight is a fine vertical pin with two flared guards and
the sight is removable by pushing down on a pin and sliding the sight out forwards (possibly made for the purpose of sight interchangeability). I am trying to find out more about this gun and possible value for insurance purposes. Thanks in advance.

It's obviously a Schuetzen rifle but I don't recognize the action. Maybe a Burghsmueller, (sp)? Cartridge is most likely the 8.15 X 46R. The crown over "B", "U", and "G" are various stages of examination and proof. It was the 631st gun proofed in September of 1923.

Others are much more familiar with the value than me.

Read my post & the replies titled System Konkurrence for more information on your rifle. It is in the Schuetzen forum. There is a photo of my Konkurrence in the post.

              BBGuns,
The 7.7 is the bore( not groove or bullet) diameter in mm, as measured by the proofhouse. Since it was proofed Sept. 1923 (see above), it is a little bit unusual that the case length is not listed. The 7.7 is found on many 8.15x46R Schuetzen rifles, and I agree with Sharps 4590 that that is the likely caliber. The rifle was likely proofed in Zella-Mehilis, so was likely made there or around there. The crownB is the mark for a single definitive proof, made with the provisional proof charge. The crown G, means it was proofed for a single projectile (i.e. bullet). The crown U is the mark for a "View Proof", which is a detailed inspection, including verification of dimensions. The Bohler with star, is the type steel the barrel is made of.
