  • Tyrolean Gun Cases

Does anyone have a reference or link to the type of gun cases that were used in the era for Buchels or Aydts with Tylolean stocks? You often see rifles for sale, but I can't recall an original gun case ever being sold with a gun. Those type of rifles don't fit very well with current commercial gun cases. I've seen some drawings of what I presume to be leather cases in artwork of the era, but not a photo of an actual case.

    Thomas,
There are others, here, that are much more knowledgeable than I, regarding all things "Schuetzen". My own opinion, however, is cases for these rifles would be a highly personal thing for the owner. If he had one, at all, it would have likely been made especially for that rifle, and I can visualize either leather or wooden cases. Such cases, if existing, would have been expensive; and like Schuetzen sights, hunting scopes, tip up gun forearms, just might not have been turned in when the rifles were being confiscated. One of the experts will likely have a better answer.

Rigid guncases like the British ones were not popular in Germany and are very rarely seen. Instead, the Germans used flexible gunslips made of canvas or various grades of leather. For rifles with detachble barrels so called mutton leg leather cases were sometimes used. My advice: Get a copy of the 1908 AKAH catalog from the GGCA bookshop
      http://www.germanguns.com/catalog-reprints.html .
In it's second part, pages 69 – 75 , it gives a fairly complete overview of the gunslips and guncases then offered. On page 21 some cartridge cases then used for target shooting are shown. Albrecht Kind, Hunstig, = AKAH was and is the biggest producer of such shooting, hunting and dog handling equipment.
