  • Büchel original meister missing diopter

Hello, the story is in the title. I found a dealer who is selling a Büchel original meister marked rifle, with a Wittener barrel, marked a such. The rifle has been refurbished, case hardened etc... excellent condition. BUT: no diopter. Asking price around $1100, not cheap. I could try and find a diopter either in Germany, or maybe one from my rifles, but the diopter base on the Buchel is offset to the right, so I think the diopter is also offset, to the left, not an easy replacement. Has anybody got a picture of a Meister rifle and diopter from the front or rear to see how it's made? I have the book Alte Scheibenwaffen but it's essentially side views.
    Thanks, Patrick

    Hello Pat
I have a Buchel Original Meister, it came with sights. I will check tonight, if the sights are original, I will take & post photos.

I don't believe the sights are original. The base is a match, but the diopter windage adjustment must be almost all the way left for the sights to line up.

I suspect this is what will happen if I use one of my diopters. I'l like to see how difficult if would be to modify - braze, machine - an existing part. GEBU in Germany sells good quality replica standard diopters http://www.gebu-waffen.de/ger/produk...5&p=54&n=0&l=1

          PatBig,

I checked that website but didn't see any photos of the sights that were available. Several of the brands are sold here and you may want to look at http://montanavintagearms.com or www.buffaloarms.com for more pictures and information. They offer several that have a lot of windage adjustment built in or could be modified as needed.

          Thanks, Diz

                Axel,

Beautiful piece of work. Do you know what they charge for that?

Would you happen to know if anyone there speaks english well enough I could converse with them? (I KNOW my highschool German is worse than their English)

Jörg Schilling is near perfect in English. Go to the English version of his website and contact him :

Maybe you find some other interesting stuff?

I contacted him recently, they don't make the diopters any more.

I noticed the sight pictured on the web sight does not have an off set in the azimuth adjustment & it is labeled for a Buchel Meister. Perhaps the sight on my gun is original.

In fact upon closer look I think it is offset the eyepiece is centered on the sort of holding plate and clearly both not aligned with the elevation screw, offset to the left seen from behind. It does give an idea of what it should look like, though it's a bit dark. I have a friend who's good with a lather and milling machine I'll try and see if he can make me a diopter.

Here is an improved picture of the Schilling diopter. I have contacted a German firm that seems to be making replica Buchel and Aydt diopters, awaiting an answer. I'll keep you posted.

I've got a Buchel original meister as well needing sights. Any help in locating either originals or repro's would be fantastic.
                            Thanks.
