In March 2011 I paid a visit to the Gunmakers and Engravers school in Suhl, along with my colleague Scott Pilkington, to present a copy of my then new book, American Engravers-The 21st Century to the engraving students for their use.
The masters of the engraving school are Andreas Amthor and Werner Wahl whose birthday the students were celebrating the day we visited.
There is nothing fancy about this school. It does not have an impressive facade or view like the Bottega Cesare Giovanelli engraving school in Gardone, Italy but the students receive a good education in art and engraving. The school has turned out many first rate engravers over the years.
