Drilling deer hunt

I got this nice whitetail buck on opening morning of the Wisconsin deer hunt. 10 points, with a 19 inch spread. Field dressed 185 pounds. I used my Franz Merkel drilling, 16 X 16 X 7x57R. Only needed the rifle barrel, but I had Brenneke slugs in the shotgun barrels just in case. I've taken four deer with this gun, and this is the biggest by far. Hell, it's the biggest whitetail I've taken with any gun!!

Being a fellow Wisconsinite, whereabouts as in what county did you harvest the big guy?

Barron County, near Dallas. My brother still owns about half of the farm where I grew up. I've been hunting those fields and woods for almost 60 years. Lots of ruffed grouse this year too!

Was just in discussion with an old bud living just west of Eau Claire about his young son shooting a nice 8 pt. I'm lower east just north of Milwaukee.

Mark, I live just a little SE of La Crosse, but do my deer hunting " Up Nort' ". I've been hunting with vintage guns exclusively for the past 6 or 7 years, mostly German. My grouse gun is a Parker VH 20 gauge, but as soon as I find a nice 6 pound German 20 gauge, I'll make the switch.
