  • Anyone interested in forming an america-based jagerverband??

    New Friends,

I've been thinking about this subject for some time now & if there are other members here who would be interested in forming a Germanic Hunters' Association of the sort that is commonplace in Germany, I would be glad to hear from you.

I qualified as a Jager at the Jagerschul in Landstul, BRD in 1970. = Are there other licensed/formerly licensed Jagers, who are on the forum??

    yours, tex

    Tex,
Yes, there are other licensed/formally licensed Jaegers here. The forum is a service of the German Gun Collectors Assn. which more or less performs the functions you are looking for. As a former member of the BJV, I understand a little of what you are missing. We had monthly meetings, discussed items of interest having to do with hunting, and made friends with local members that shared common interest. Many of these friends became guests at the Rod and Gun Clubs, and provided hunting opportunities for American Jaegers. The key here is "local", current and former Jaegers are spread out over the entire US ( and overseas) and if those that are "inclined" but have never been "licensed" are excluded, then monthly meetings will be very sparsely attended. That , then, leaves annual meetings. The GGCA has an annual meeting which mostly includes what you are looking for. Many of us are not able to attend all the meetings and other trips( including some to Germany), but can read about them in the GGCA's two periodic publications( WAIDMANNSHEIL and Der WAFFENSCHMEID). Our member and technical editor Axel Eichenddorff often reports on and provides photos of current hunts in Germany. In my admittedly unsolicited opinion, membership in the GGCA and NRA will give you what you are looking for, and you can participate as much as you want, in the activities. Go to the GGCA's main website and you will see what I am talking about.

Tex, I agree with what my fellow Alabamian, Mike Ford, said, I want to encourage you, I received my German hunting license at the Heidelberg Germany rod and gun club in 1982, I bought my first drilling in that same year and if is been my favorite hunting gun ever since , I found an old 1902 Hollenbeck drilling passed down in my family, and as Mike knows, have been on an odyssey which involves sending it back to Germany having a 3030 Winchester insert installed, a Zeiss scope with pivot mounts, The rifle of the drilling was a black powder cartridge .25-25 Stevens, with it I shot pig, With the 3030 Winchester insert, I shot a doe, and a 12 point white tailed buck! I also went back to Germany this summer to visit the gunSmith who did all this Refurbishing for me, Tobi Nisse, and I shot a roebuck with him! Anyway there’s much more to the story, Which I plan to describe in more detail in another thread, after Mike’s encouragement who I met in the doublegunshop forum, Keep your enthusiasm up, thanks for asking the question, and have a good evening and Waidmannshiel

          ginge,
If you "write up" your hunt with Tobi, the full length Einstecklauf, and the swing mounts installed on your Hollenbeck; I suspect they would be well received by the editor of the WAIDMANNSHEIL. Of course, I can't speak for him, as to what he will publish, but I believe the membership would be interested.

            SATX,
As you likely know, you are in an area of Texas settled by many German immigrants. I hunt that part of Texas as well as OK, NM, and CO. There may some Germanic minded hunter organizations from Fredericksburg east for a couple hundred miles. I own and hunt with one German origin gun, a Simson .405 DR and have taken many exotics from a ranch at Hondo, not far from you. In fact, the owners last name is Germanic. There is an exotic cull hunt there today and tomorrow, but I had to cancel due to priority interruptions.
You live in a great part of Texas for the outdoorsman.
