  • Loesche combination gun 12 guage, 9.3 by 72r

Hello. This is my first post. I am trying to get more information abou this gun.
Here is the link to the auction. The person I bought it from bought it here.
    http://www.cowanauctions.com/auction...?ItemId=102806

I have found used dies, rcbs 3 die set, for $75. I can get the following ammo and reload it.

    http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/61944-1.html

$53 seem good for loaded ammo. My local shop wants $75, as do the mail order places other then Cheaper than dirt.

I can get 20 pcs of norma brass for $40. I don't seem to see 193 grain bullets for reloading anywhere. They are all heavier, maybe for 9.3 by 74 or other 9.3 calibers.

I am unlike to hunt with this, just want to bring it to the range .

    Thanks,
    Mario in NH

PS I paid about 25% less then the auction price listed.

    I do not see listings

    Mario,
You seem to have everything pretty much in hand for shooting your rifle. If you post photos of the proofmarks, we would be able to tell you more about it. The ammo from Cheaper than Dirt (J&G Sales also) is S&B ammo and is perfectly useable ammo with cases that take American primers. The 193 gr bullet is special, in that it is useable in barrels of different groove diameters.Manufacturers (S&B,RWS, etc)show it as being avaliable, but you can hardly find a US dealer that stocks it, and "special orders" are sure to make you pull your hair out. If you "slug" the barrel, you may find that you can use avaliable .358"dia 35 Rem.bullets. This is not,by any means, assured.Your rifle seems to be pretty modern and could very well have a groove dia of .362-.364", which would be a little large for .358" bullets. The only way to know is through slugging the barrel( or making a chamber cast). As for myself, I most often use cast bullets and am more than satisfied with them. You didn't mention being a bullet caster, but this can be an enjoyable part of our hobby. There is a three part discussion of loading the 9.3x72R in previous issues of WAIDMANNSHEIL. If you don't have them, I think they are avaliable from the "home office". BTW your shotgun barrel may be chambered for the short 12ga(65mm-2 9/16"). This can be determined with photos of proof marks. In my opinion, you would be well served by using this rifle much more than taking it to the range. As for hunting with it, there is a reason the Germans called this cartridge "the old foresters cartridge".Believe me, there is a lot of satisfaction in taking a deer with ammo you have loaded yourself, using bullets you cast yourself.

Thanks for the information, Mike. My cousin, who got me into guns, and then into reloading, casts his own bullets. I am sure I can get a supply of them from him, as I am always scrounging lead for him. Got 40 lbs of lead in an old cookie tin at a local shop for $2, though all the other lead there was $1 a lb!
I will slug the barrel prior to moving ahead with this. Would be awesome to take a deer with this gun. My son lived 2 hrs north of Munich, and I walked in the kind of woods that the German foresters would hunt, and bring hunters.
