  • Info on Gotthilf von Nordheim?

Have a single-shot, bolt action .22 with full length stock to the muzzle bearing practically no markings beyond eagle/N proofs and "GOTTH.v.NORDHEIM, Zella-Mehlis" on barrel. Does anyone know of a timeframe when this gentleman/firm was operating, other than the obvious timing of the proof marks? Perhaps a son or relative to Emil? as this was proofed after Emil's death in 1938. Or, one of the other Büchsenmacher noted in Z-M? Any dates, addresses or other info would be greatly appreciated!

Have determined this dealer was in business as of 1901, based on a magazine advertisement. Apparently sold some pistols as late as 1939, with his marking on them, but evidently ? of someone else's manufacture. Cannot find any evidence of any guns of his own design, so far?

      Steve,
Not that it´ll help you a lot, but here´s an ad from Gotthilf von Nordheim. If he actually had a Gewehr-fabrik I don´t know.

and here´s one from Emil von Nordheim. He seemed to have a Waffen-fabrik and not a Gewehr-fabrik.

Kellner & Pape list no less than 22 Zella-Mehlis gunmakers named "von Nordheim". It is problematic to reconstruct business or family relations now. Gotthilf von Nordheim, Hirtengasse 4, called his business "gun and bicycle factory, gunmaking and -marketing". Documented from 1903 to 1932, may have existed until WW2, at least to 1940.
Emil v.N., at Bergstrasse 1 in 1906, Kaffenberg 1 in 1938, was certainly a competitor. Each and every small Zella-Mehlis gunmaker or dealer called his backyard shop a "Fabrik = Factory" then, either "Waffenfabrik = arms factory" or "Gewehrfabrik = long gun factory". They all bragged this way in advertisements.

Thank you both, sincerely, very much! The least bit of information helps, when one knows nothing but a name. I am trying to record as much information as possible, in order to make future searches by other interested people a little easier---hopefully. I appreciate your effort to help in this endeavor!
