I inherited this beautiful rifle from my Father years ago but have very little info concerning its vintage. There are no serial numbers and no caliber markings anywhere on the gun. I am hoping maybe someone here may be able to give me a little more info. Pictures including proof mark images are located in my Photobucket album http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Henr...20Rifle/Mauser . Click on each image to see entire image.

Welcome! You inherited a beautiful rifle!
Are there any more markings on the barrel? Maybe I missed the picture on photo bucket. I did not see any traditional proof marks that would be on the barrel. If you look at the proof mark primer on the technical page on this sight there is a brief explanation of the Stmg marking on the reciever.
There will be more knowledgable folks along to tell you for than I ever could.
A side note, do you have any means to measure the bore?

Tparker424,
The Stmg with 12,7 under it indicates it was proofed for a steel jacketed bullet weighing 196gr. This would fit a rifle chambered for 8x57 or several other 8mm nominal calibers. The nice floor plate is a little unusual and the hinge reminds me of one on a Haenel mod.1909. I would be interested in seeing the floorplate opened up,showing the follower and spring arrangement. There is no number behind the recoil lug, but the flattened bolt handle is in the older style, leading me to believe the rifle was built after WW1 with a surplus military action. I would be curious also to see photos of the bottom side of the barrel, ahead of the reciever. It would be helpful if you could slug the barrel, or have it done.
