  • Mauser pistols

I am quite new here and would apologize for some stuffs that are new to me but quite common to your veteran folks.

Here are photos of two Mauser pistols. The Mauser pistols found in China are predominantly C96 so it is a little surprise me to see a Browning-like Mauser. Would you please tell me the type of this Mauser. Many thanks.

My gut feeling is that the quality of these two Mausers are slightly different. Are they both authentic or one of them is a copied?

The Chinese imported a lot of German pistols in 7,65mm. The two Mausers are German made, but probably were exported to China and used there by military officers. The photo of the "new one" is that of an Ortgies that obviously was in a fire at one time in the past. Ortgies were also exported to China and other Asian countries also. Regards, Jim

The first two pistols are model 1914s and as Jim says, were in 7.65 or 32 auto. Mauser did a thriving business with China and its various warlords. I have a C96, 1930s model that was sent to China as part of the "Chinese Contract". It has Chinese writing on the side of the magazine meaning "Made in Germany" and some Chinese acceptance marks. Do your pistols have anything similar?

The Chinese characters "made in Germany" appear only on C96s imported through official channel.
