    Peter,
    There is no doubt the gun is post war. They may have misunderstood and thought you had a pre-war gun.The West German Sauer firm had no real connection the Suhl Sauer, except the name.Of course, it's possible they had a recent fire unrelated to the war( I don't know that they were bombed during the war anyway).In addition to the date, the Bundes Adler (Federal Eagle) on the proof marks, show it is a post war, West German gun.

          A 1962 Burgsmueller, Kreiensen, catalog identifies the gun as the West German Sauer & Sohn, Eckernförde, model FOX. This was the basic s/s gun of the then line. It came without a third bite and was a non-ejector.

              The American market is quite different, but here in Germany it would be merely Euro 300.- to 400.-
