    Marat,
Franz Jaeger (F Jaeger & Co) was the Grandfather of our founder Dietrich Apel. One of Dietrich's Uncles was Paul Jaeger, but he was active in the US after the war, so there must have been another Paul. Maybe someone else will explain the connection.

Yes, there were two Paul Jaegers, Paul (I) and Paul (II). The inscription on this drilling relates to Paul(I): “Masterpiece and last piece of work / of Paul Jaeger Suhl / gloriously killed in action November 11, 1914”.
This Paul (I) was Franz Jaeger’s younger brother, born June 15, 1883. He came to his brother’s factory and was trained as a gunmaker, leading the auctioning shop there. He was an early victim of WW1. Obviously the engraving was done afterwards.
Paul (II) was Franz Jaeger’s eldest son, born July 31, 1901 in New York, before the family returned to Germany. Paul was apprenticed as a gunmaker in Halle. After returning to Suhl he worked at his father’s factory first, before setting up on his own at Mühltorstr.7, Suhl. In 1927 he returned to his land of birth, working for von Lengerke & Detmold, Abercrombie & Fitch and R.F.Sedgley. Later he set up on his own as Paul Jaeger Inc.,Jenkintown, PA. He passed away February 3, 1993.

        Axel,
Thanks for the information. Did you mean Paul II lead the auctioning shop or actioning shop?

Sorry for the typo. Paul I led the ACTION shop of his brother's factory. There were no specific firearms auctions then.

About ten years ago or more, I ' ve sent pictures of my nice drilling by F. Jager to Dietrich Appel( if I right remember). It was made in 1942 or 1943 and had scope on the right barrel. He answered me, that he remember this drilling, when he was teenager he did something at that drilling.
After that, he sent me reprint catalogue of Franz Jager, and wrote that he was in soviet prison after the WW2 about 5 or 7 years....
            such a story....
