  • Schuetzen rifle- ornate- from "Victor Trülzsch in Nürnberg" - Ideas on value?

I have a question about a German Schuetzen rifle - it says "Victor Trülzsch in Nürnberg" on the barrel. It’s basically covered with hand carving & engraving- almost all exposed metal has some kind of engraving — even pieces that aren't visible unless you look. Even the screws are engraved!

My uncle brought it back from occupied Germany at the end of WWII. His unit was disarming German homes, and they put confiscated rifles in the street- muzzles on the curb, and stocks on the street. Then they ran over them with a tank. I guess that’s war- effective, but imagine the antiques that were lost… My uncle saw this particular rifle about to be crushed, and saved it and took it back to the States. Anyway, I decided it was time to put it on the market- sad but true. It's listed here: http://www.oldetymestuffe.com/aboutus604.html

But I found out earlier this week that the auction is happening much sooner than I expected- actually tomorrow, Thursday 8/25, and now I'm nervous. I set a reserve price of $3,000 for it, and I’m not sure if that’s the appropriate amount. Does anyone here have any perspective on this? I only have a day to change this…

    Thanks!

I don't know that auction venue, hopefully it get exposure to the proper enthusiasts as I'd say (without being an expert) that should easily capture your reserve, I base that opinion on age and uniqueness only, the gun may be worthless as a gun . IDK

    Good luck

What a beautiful piece of work! The photos are excellent, but outside of the partially cropped image of proofmarks on the right side of receiver, do not show markings which would be helpful in telling more about its history. Thanks for sharing this, and I do hope it does well at auction for you!

Smart money will buy your rifle at that auction house and turn it over to Rock Island Auction Company
