Seems that there isn't a full regiment of marks, some are worked off or both. Also the marks are upside-down. It is a A&D sideplated boxlock and might have been made in the West for a GI post 1952 and passed thru the Ulm proof facility. Since I don't see a date as of yet, I guess it is possible it might date between the end of WWII & 1952?? Can you chalk or put some graphite on the flats so that the marks are more apparent? High serial number though and lack of cocking indicators.

Thank you for the response. There are no more marks. The flats are in mintcondition. So nothing got rubbed off. Just the serial # and the n over the eagle and then two more eagles down lower. Very different from what I have ever see before.

I say not. Look at the Imperial Eagle beside the serial number and its mate on the other flat. It surmounts something.

Maybe it is a lone Imperial Eagle and falls in the category of a Flobert seeing it was custom??? But for the moment not having a date code is odd.

No no other marks. The picture is not that clear. In person the gun is deeply marked with the serial number with the eagle beside it and the n over the eagle on the top. Nothing got rubbed off. It is the exact same way on the water table. Also the eagles do not match any German gun I own. The n is over the eagle not under. The eagles are just slightly different then the ulm eagle.

Have a close look at the barrel flats, underside of the barrels, both sides of the lumps. That is the place where the significant proofmarks are to be found! Please, post photos of this underside of the barrels. The action usually only shows the post-1952 eagle/N mark. That "eagle" on the action flats look unlike any Imperial-, Reichs- or Federal one.

No marks on the underside of the barrels just on the flats. Top of barrel is the barrel marker.

Must have been proofed in Ulm in 1951, immediately after the Ulm proofhouse was reopened by the US forces. The markings do not conform to the 1952 proof rules. The early federal German eagle is below the N instead on top of. No antler mark transferred from Oberndorf to Ulm. No proof date. And, most important, no address or logo of the maker, retailer or importer, mandatory since 1940 and 1952. The Krupp steel markings are not of the barrelmaker, merely of the steel source. I suspect it was made up then for a GI, using leftover pre-45 parts. The high serial number is likely pure fantasy, if the gun was not finished by Krieghoff, then restarting in Ulm.

Nah, the error was mine. I grabbed the wrong images. That 3 Ringe Spezial Gewehr Lauf Stahl is pre-WWII supply & was only available from Sauer and in serialized tubesets, if that is indeed what it is. I assume the serial number and year are worked off?
