What are these gg marks on my son's byf 41?

This is an RC that was brought home by Sgt Earle A. Welker Jr., 101 AB, from VN.

That is a suffix to the serial number. When production quantity ran high during the war years, a numeric series was followed by another with first a one-letter suffix, and then later in the same year (if and when needed) a two-letter suffix. Thus, this rifle was produced relatively late during that year.

German military serial numbers ran from 1 to 9999 in a series, then a letter suffix was added and a new number series restarted at 1 again. According to Law's book 336441 Kar98k's coded byf 41 were made by the Mauser Werke, Oberndorf a.N. Now you may calculate when a gg suffix rifle was made during 1941.
