  • Jan Novotny combination gun 1912

I would like to advise on the identification of several marks on barrels of the combination gun (O&U) from Jan Novotny - year 1912.
There are several proof marks on the barrels. I think the first is from Germany, where the gun was made. The second from 1912 is from Prague and from Weipert (receiver) and the last from 1969 is from Austria Ferlach, where the barrel was modified.

There are some marks on rifle barrel which I would like to identify - I marked them with a red circle in the picture. Nr 1, 3 are only on rifle barrel and Nr 2 is on shotgun and rifle barrel.
Thank you very much for any advice.

      matesar,
The marks you highlighted are not proof marks and are not official government marks. They are worker's touch marks or Forum may be a shop/company logo. Touch marks were used by the maker to identify workers that accomplished as piece work or producing a part in an individual shop. The marks identified the worker/shop owner to ensure payment for the work or to establish liability, if something went wrong. There is unfortunately, no ledger or listing of all the touch marks, so positive identification is no longer possible in most cases. There were families that were known to do certain work over many years' time and certain initials are often ascribed to them, but other families may have similar initials. Schillings, Kleber, Kessler, and others are examples. The mark Forum you highlighted is possibly a logo, but since it was stamped on a curved surface it seems distorted and I don't recognize it. There are a great many logos I don't recognize, even if clear. Maybe someone else will recognize it. None of this takes away from what is obviously a very nice gun.

Nowotny had an outlet in Suhl. Do not know when he opened it.

EDIT: forgot. Nowotny ad from January 1, 1923.
