  • Drilling scope side mount?

With my Weaver K6 mounted on the drilling it appears that the shotgun function is useless. What info do you have on dovetail mounts that will move the scope off to the side so that the rib is clearly visible? 20221225_125417.jpg

The scope is easy enough to remove, although you made need a coin to do it. The "trick" comes in when you re-install it. To do this without having to re-sight it you will have to install it against a "stop" and tighten the clamps the same amount every time. Even though I have claw mounts on my own drillings, I often take small game with the scope attached. Of course, flying game requires removal.

Mike, here is a close up view of the mounts that were supplied with the drilling.

        Cthraen,
To move the scope over to the side, you would have to make or have someone else make an adaptor that has a female dovetail on the bottom, fitting the dovetail on the gun. It would have a male dovetail on the top, fitting the scope mounts. The centerline of the two dovetails would be offset by the distance you believe would work for you. Of course, the adaptor would need appropriate stops and clamps to prevent movement.

          Hi Mike and all:

I've actually shot trap a few times with a Bochbucshflinte or my Drilling with the variable scopes set at 1.5X. Sure I get some odd looks or questions, but I simply say I need the practice on moving clays in case a target of opportunity presents itself while out bird, deer or coyote hunting (and all those seasons overlap in Maine).

The first time, I missed the first 4 shots -- then proceeded to hit the next 21! That surely silenced all the doubters (although I was very worried at first...)

I too have a 30mm 1 x 6 scope mounted on a SxS cape gun. Dialed down to 1 power it has tremendous field of view. I have used it with great success on quail and actually shoot better with the scope rather than with the open sights. The scope never comes off that rifle. Look closely and you will see the quail on the back of the Reedbuc.DC58572C-A453-427D-B89B-F1FB4682DE40.jpg

Very fascinating, I will give this a try. Wonder if a red dot type sight would be effective. Hmm...
