  • M S 1910 proof

I finally got up enough nerve to take apart my Mannlicher Schoenauer 1910 to read the proof marks. The only one I am not sure about is 1333 .14. Does that mean 1333rd rifle proofed at the Steyr proof house in 1914? My understanding is that the Vienna proof house and the Steyr proof house used the same mark.
All the other marks are as described in “The Standard Directory of Proof Marks” by R.A. Steindler. I think I will enjoy shooting this one, it mounts and points so well. Bit overkill for anything I will hunt in Kansas. Will use it with open sights only.

You are right, your rifle was proofed in 1914. But the proof facility at the Steyr factory was merely a branch of the Vienna proofhouse. See the Nitro proofmark. It is certainly NPv, v for Vienna. The other Austrian proofhouses marked NPf = Ferlach, NPp = Prag, NPw = Weipert.

Have dies, 100 235gr and 150 270 gr, formed brass from 30-06. Probably won’t do much range work until after the holidays .
