  • Crown over AL?

First off I don't know if the aforementioned "Crown over AL" in an oval is even a proof mark. There also appers to be a "w" beneath the AL. It is on a double barrel firearm, one on each flat. On the rib, apparently in gold, is "F. Lorenz Weissenfels"

I understand several cities had stamps or proofs but I can't find this one.

    Any help?

    Thanks! Vic

      Vic,
I don't recognize them either. I don't thimk they are German, if they are, they are pre-1893.

Thanks Mike. Having finally seen the rest of the gun I'd date it 1870's and I can't believe much later, given the style, engraving and other elements. Given the size of firing pins it's assuredly a BP gun. My thought is that it's definitely pre-proof law which is why I suspect a city stamp....but that's obviously speculation. I've poured through Wirnsberger's and it isn't shown anywhere nor can I find it on line.
