  • Some marks on a Schutzen rifle

    Underside small.jpg

I understand the BUG marks. The caliber of this gun is 8.15 x 46 so what is the 7.7? Does 6/25 indicate month/year of manufacture? And what of the last two marks on the right?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello

7,7 is the bore diameter. 6/25 is date of passing proof. June 1925. I've seen suggestions for star over H and will believe the suggestions when I see evidence or reasonable arguments for those suggestions. Same goes for the other marking.

    Images of the entire rifle?

Sure thing. It is a lot nicer than I thought it would be. Bore is sharp. The delicate front sight post is intact. 12lbs.IMG_0594.JPG 142_1.jpg 142_4.jpg 142_2.jpg

A bit vanilla compared to some I've seen. But a nice example of the "Type" I think. I need a rear sight to make it complete.

I am interested in the shooting, the engraving or carving is just the frosting on the cake. Some of the ornate schuetzen rifles are pieces of art.

The "star/H" mark appears on most C.G.Haenel rifle barrels made in the interwar years. Apparently it replaced the pre-WW1 barrel trademark, a "circled chicken with CGH". The B is most likely a factory internal worker's mark.

Except for the thumb pulpit and cartridge I have its twin. 'Course I expect there's a lot of twins out there.

If it shoots like mine I'm certain you'll enjoy it.

Have you taken yours apart? If so I have some questions.
