  • Proof question

When it is too cold to go to the range, I start investigating the proof marks on my latest acquisition a system Concurrenz retailed by H Lechner Nuremberg. The rifle was proofed March 1907 and a 3 digit number 709 that I would assume was Zella-Mehlis ledger number except that both Gerhard. Wirnsberger and A Baron Englehardt (my only reference) indicate that Zella-Mehlis did not start using ledger numbers until 1911 or 12. I don’t believe it is a serial number, do to its appearance and location. It looks just like ledger numbers on other rifles I have. The rifle is not marked as being reproofed after any repair. Any ideas? Maybe it’s just an anomaly like the other Concurrenz I have that has no proof marks. Not a very important question, but like I say, too cold to go to the range.

Thanks Peter, where on Sharps4590’s Adyt is the reproof mark? Is it the faint R by the 7.8mm mark or is it the 2 ledger numbers? Axel’s photo would indicate ledger numbers were in use prior to 1911. I am not very good at searching the forum. The bore in my latest Concurrenz is quite good, no corrosion just some rifling wear. I have made one trip to the range with it, I believe it will shoot better than my offhand abilities.
