  • need help evaluating a 1914 Luger made in 1917

My 91 year old dad is trying to figure out what to do with 3 German WWII Guns. The most memorable is a Luger 1914 made in 1917. Had a local dealer say that it was the real thing and advised me to find someone who knew more about them to help evaluate it. It does not have the grips with the number 9 but does have the wood intact on the clip. We live in the Birmingham Al area and would appreciate a referral. The other Mauser guns are a 9.3x62 officer hunting rifle and a 7,65 32 cal auto pistol
    Thanks in advance

      Steve,
We mainly concentrate on German sporting guns, but some members may also have an interest in martial guns. In my limited experience, I wouldn't expect a red 9 on the grips of a Luger, this mostly expected on the grips of a Mauser 1896 Broomhandle, chambered for the 9mm Luger, rather than the 7,63 or 9mm Mauser cartridge. Since you live in Birmingham, I suggest you contact the Alabama Gun Collectors Assn., If I recall correctly one or more of their members have particular interest in Lugers. A better description and/or photos of the rifle and 32 cal pistol, including clear readable photos of all markings, especially those on the bottom of the rifle barrel, under the stock( proof marks). With this info, we can likely be of more help; however, "thumbnail" photos do not provide the necessary clarity, as a general rule. The 9.3x62 rifle may very well have been owned by an officer, but they were typically available to any hunter, not just officers.
