  • Buchel Meister barrel markings

The photo shows the barrel markings for the plainest Buchel Meister that I've ever seen. Other than some checkering on the stock, there aren't any embellishments at all. There are no exposed markings on the barrel.

I'm curious what the "837" is. The rifle has a 4 digit serial number. The barrel also has "E B" with what appears to be a partial "K" stamped below (not shown in photo). I'm not sure what the "K" refers to. Any help would be appreciated.

E.B. is most likely the real maker, Emil Bader, Rodebachstr.34, Zella-Mehlis. The rifle was proofed by the Zella-Mehlis proofhouse in 4.25 = April 1925, 837th gun proofed that month. Sch may be the barrelmaker Rino Schneider, Gothaer Str.17, Zella-Mehlis. The barrel steel came from the steelworks in Witten on Ruhr, who pioneered small arms barrel steel. (An American customer of Witten barrel steel in the 1860s-80s was Colt).
