    Hello

Nice rifle it is and from an interesting period and place in German rifle manufacturing, but was it really worth the asking price? No info on how much someone actually paid in the end. Do we have a lucky and possibly poor new owner?

Also: noticed that the genius marketing division over at Photobucket has eaten kammerherren's images. I hope that it backlashes seriously for them.

    Kind regards
    Peter

The "buy now" price is too much for me to justify, not all that comfortable with the starting bid. I share your hope about photobucket, I guess we will see what happens, over time.

I don't know if you relate to the earliest ad for the "REMO" – Repetierschrotflinte, 16 and 12 gauge, I found. It appeared in "Der Waffenschmied", issue dated Jan.25, 1920. It mentioned DRGM 722187, 722188 and D.R.P.a.. Further the distributors Gustav Genschow & Co., Imman. Meffert and Gebrueder Rempt. But no hint to R.w.E.

          Hello

          Axel,
either you have misunderstood me or I have misunderstood you. I wasn’t after any RwE in the ad, I was after the DRP. I did find the ad and it’s from Der Waffenschmied and is a Gebrüder Rempt ad with the Remo as DRP. I have two clashing notes on it – May 1920 and the other note says 25. October 1920. It could be down to a typo on my or your part. Please look if you can find it again. 25. October is only three days before the ausgegeben date but May 1920 is a different ballgame and will put some twist on the RwE marked conversions.

Also: I’m closing in on your April 1919 date for the start of Reichswerke Erfurt. Right now I’m in July 1919 – “Infolge Kündigung von zwei angestellten kam es in der ehemaligen [my italics] königlichen Gewehrfabrik ……..” (Heidelberger Zeitung 23/7 1919).

          chapmen,
sorry for the delay, got caught up in other things. Here are the images

I apologize beforehand for terminology as English is not native to me. May the crack between the shellguide and receiver on the Meffert conversion I linked to be just a crack in the bluing, and may this be down to the bluing not sticking to the solder. I have temporarily ditched the “welding”. Images of my Remo with a crack are not the best but no crack is visible from the inside. Perhaps over time and depending on how much use the gun has been put through may be a reason for some conversion having the crack. Images of the receiver of my other Remo with no crack will turn up. Camera needed charging.

          Kind regards
          Peter

The D.R.P.a., Genschow, Meffert and Rempt ad appeared in "Der Waffenschmied" issues February, March and April 1920.(all monthly issues are dated 25th) No Rempt/Remo ads in the May to September issues. In the October 25, 1920, issue appeared a new ad by Gebrueder Rempt, Suhl only: "Remo" - Repetierschrotflinte D.R.P.

Without any effort to get into the "discussion" on dates and "DRP", it is my considered opinion that none of the shell guides shown above were welded on. I think they were soldered on; either by soft solder, or hard solder( silver solder or brass). The joint is well hidden on the outside. If they were soft soldered, caustic bluing salts would remove residue solder.

The other day I found this rifle advertised here in Norway. It is permanently made useless since the action/barrel is drilled and welded. I thought the pictures might be interesting to the readers, so I saved some copies.

                    Hello

                    kammerherren,
thank you and welcome back. I've been wondering where and to what you went off.

I doubt the stock is the original one. There seems to be a caliber marking on the barrel. Is this the rifle you were planning on buying?

May I ask what the asking price is?

                    Kind regards
                    Peter

                      Hi älgmule,
I never went anywhere, just been reading, didn’t have anything to write. No, this is another rifle then the one you refer to. This one came for sale just a few days ago, and as I wrote, it is permanently ruined for use. I never seen it in real life, but I agree, the stock looks like a later replacement. (My guess is, it is put on recently just to sell it, the stock is obviously old). Not sure what it was sold for.
