  • Dural Engraving: Cast vs Hand Engraved

My Krieghoff Trumpf and Franz Sodia drillings both have intricate engraving on their actions. It occured to me the other day to ask the forum whether they were made by casting or by hand?

    jillandsam303,
I suggest you pose your question to Krieghoff and whoever took over Franz Sodia, and report the answer to us. We can speculate, but the actual answer would interest all of us.

Krieghoff just got back to me. Good news! All engraving was done by hand back then. So Durals were meticulously engraved just like steel actions.

It's excellent to have that information from the horse's mouth. I would have put that I seriously doubt they were cast with the engraving. In fact, I would be surprised they were cast at all. I don't know the exact alloy of the Durals. I have read it is supposed to be an Aluminum composite, but I suspect given the time and technology, magnesium is more likely. If anyone has any information, please share!
