Probably will leave the scope on for now. There is a flip up rear peep sight, but the sight line is blocked by the custom scope mounts.

Here is another such "Austrian Henry", signed by J. Nowotny, Prague (until 1918 Austrian part of the Habsburg empire)

I have seen this or an very identical from Nowotny last year in Ulm. Nice rifle, so asked for the price. The answer: special gun show price, 7.500 Euro..............

Axel, that one is stunning!!!!! I'm not much on take downs but for one like that would make an exception.

              Axel,

What is the function of the knob on the buttstock of the take-down rifle you show. I have never seen anything like it.

              Thanks, Diz

Just like the cleaning rod under barrel, the knob under the buttstock is a vestigiality from muzzleloader times. It is a screw-on handle for the ram-/cleaning rod. This handle was screwed into a hole with escutcheon under the butt when not in use. Most often these knobs are lost now, leaving the enigmatic threaded hole + escutcheon. Some Austrian gunmakers added these nostalgic gadgets even to bolt action rifles up to WW1. F.i. see this Neuber rifle on a Haenel M1900 action,

In the 4th post by Travis, middle/3rd photo, you can see the hole.

Yes, it is that rifle. A bit expensive for me too. Got the photos from the vendor with a question.

My rifle has a jointed cleaning rod, 2 pieces & a bore brush in the butt stock and 1 piece in the forearm.

Thank you, Axel. Those old gun makers seem to have thought of everything. Diz
