I have seen this or an very identical from Nowotny last year in Ulm. Nice rifle, so asked for the price. The answer: special gun show price, 7.500 Euro..............
What is the function of the knob on the buttstock of the take-down rifle you show.
Just like the cleaning rod under barrel, the knob under the buttstock is a vestigiality from muzzleloader times. It is a screw-on handle for the ram-/cleaning rod. This handle was screwed into a hole with escutcheon under the butt when not in use. Most often these knobs are lost now, leaving the enigmatic threaded hole + escutcheon. Some Austrian gunmakers added these nostalgic gadgets even to bolt action rifles up to WW1. F.i. see this Neuber rifle on a Haenel M1900 action, http://www.germanguns.com/upload/sho...Identification
In the 4th post by Travis, middle/3rd photo, you can see the hole.

Yes, it is that rifle. A bit expensive for me too. Got the photos from the vendor with a question.
