  • New member with an ask from anyone able to help! (Loesche)

    Greetings~

My name is Hugh and I live in the area of Stillwater in Minnesota, USA. I've always enjoyed german firearms and pens and cars and thought I'd join the group.

My current challenge is an Adolph Loesche (drilling) that is missing the iron and fore-end wood. I understand that this could be a challenge to replace and certainly not expecting to find one lying around in a workshop, but my theories for restoring this piece include finding one lying around in a workshop; obtaining very HQ pictures of one and commissioning a new piece; perhaps obtaining one and using a 3D scanner to take a file up and "print" a piece.

This is a nice piece and one that deserves to be preserved. I'm open to any other options that are plausible. I won't clog the site with pictures but if anyone wants specifics I'll send or update with photos. It is, I believe, approximately 16ga x 9.5 or something similar...

    Cheers, all,

    H. Alan Kantrud

    Hugh,
It would be advantageous if you did post photos. When you say it is "9.5 or something", it leaves open the possibility that it is a hammer drilling. There is a considerable difference in work required(therefore cost) between forearms for hammer drillings and hammerless drillings. A hammer drilling is much easier, since you don't have to worry about the apparatus to cock the hammers. You might talk to some of the gunsmiths shown in the "Trade Directory" in WAIDMANNSHEIL or in the other part of this site, they will understand German guns.

        Hugh,
Did you ever get your drilling squared away?

Hugh (and Mike Ford). Was Loesche the maker or retailer? I had one but it looked like he retailed it, not made it. Just askin'.

I believe Loesche was the retailer.

Gustav Loesche, Spandauer Brücke 11, Berlin C2, founded 1873 by father Adolf Loesche in Magdeburg. Existed at least until 1941. Branches in Magdeburg and Hanover, as Loesche & Helmuthäuser. As usual, he had "his" guns made in Zella-Mehlis and Suhl, as well as in Liege.

Ad.Loesche WAS a retailer. A bit surprised the maker's name doesn't appear. I have a custom SxS inscribed from Loesche, but identified as a Sauer & Sohn. He was a retailer not unlike

Posting lots of pictures won't clog the website a bit! That is part of the enjoyment!

I am very curious when you say 9.5 something. . .

Please post pictures of the markings and proofs.

                  Thanks
