rleslie,
The note contains the tel. number of Shooting Sports Central(?) Suhl. The name, tel. number, and address of Herr Krempel's daughter; and other tel. numbers of people that knew him. The numbers that start with 11-49-xxxxx- are international numbers for German telephones.

At first- i dont know if the pistol have belonged to Erich Krempel, i only know the story. It came up to me by writing an article for the german gunmag "Visier" about Krempels olympia pistol.
I think that it is possible that it was an proberty of Erich Krempel. It is known that five pistols of him located in an banksafe disappear after US troops was 1945 in the bank. (one of this pistols is the know surfaced olympia "free" pistol).
An old story is that one of this pistols was an golden one, given to Krempel by Adolf Hitler.
I have gone through several papers and found nothing about this.
The article that was with the Walther PP only tells about the shooting match.
What i hear now for the first time that the gun was given by the MOTHER of Erich Krempel. My information are definetely that they where taken directly from the bank safe.
The phone number is from an shooting range in Suhl.
Fact is that the PP was made in 1938 by serial number. In Rankins Book about engraved PP/PPKs is an identical PP with + 3 serial number, given 1938 by the NSKK in Weimar.
For me the thing is that in Suhl and Zella Mehlis where 1945 a lot of guns and a lot of US soldiers looked for war bootys.
The story make sense, but untill now i have nothing in the hands that Krempel had definetely this Walther PP.http://www.jagdwaffensammler.de

The news paper article that I posted above was in the case with the pistol. I do remember seeing that article around 1960 when my dad showed me the pistol and explained it's history as he knew it. I also recall dad doing research into the pistol when I was in my early 20s. That would coincide with the notes he took in '77.
As to the story of how he got it.....he initially said that as the military governor of Suhl, all weapons cleared through him and he kept it. It was much later that he said the mother gave it to him. I never believed the story about the mother and felt that he was trying to justify the taking of the pistol.
I hope this information helps in some way and will be happy to discuss it with the museum (or anyone else) if they are interested. Both my dad and mom are deceased, so no help there.

chapmen,
I also have been having trouble with double posts, for quite some time now. I have just been deleting the second one. It seems that others, beside us, have also had this problem. BTY, the double posts are not the only problems, it's just that I learned to work around them.
