  • Very small Martini

    Hello
I have a very small German Martini (5lb 4oz) with double set triggers. I would like to shoot it, the problem is that the bore slugs .210 and a chamber cast shows a rim fire shell about .875-.950 in length, with a head size of about .245. The proof marks are Crown over B, Crown over U, Crown over G, 611 and what might be a stags horn mark. The side of the barrel is marked 0,05gr N.G.P. M/71. 1gr BL. The rifle has open sights, I assume it is a small game rifle. I would appreciate any information & any ideas on how to form ammo.
    Thanks Mike

The rifle is apparently proofed for the .22 short black powder cartridge. 611 was the gauge number for a land diameter of 5.0 to 5.24 mm. Though undersize for a .22 by today's standards, such undersized bores were quite popular in blackpowder times. The proofmarks you describe were used from 1893 to 1911. Here in Germany the .22lr cartridge started to replace the .22 short from 1905 on.

      yamoon,
Based on Axel's comments, I suggest you try CCI CB caps in your rifle. Within a reasonable range and with a careful hold, CBs are quite capable of taking squirrels from your pecan trees. If you buy a box, and they don't work out, you can still use them in your other rifles.
