  • Souce of Metric Screws?

In a moment of weakness I grabbed a torx driver instead of the 1 mm Allen wrench beside it. I buggered the screw head on one of my ring screws on my BBF. Does anybody know of a US source for little metric Allen screws. The screws on my rings take a 1mm Allen wrench and are approximately 1 mm in diameter. The heads measure 1.9 to 2 mm. They are 4 to 4.3 mm long including the head. I can't get a good thread count, but they are fine. The screw still works, but it is an advertisement for a less than brilliant moment.
    Thanks

Please, remeasure your Allen wrench and the screws. "1 mm" is very unusual for both, as 1 mm is about .04". Screws of such a size are usually found in cameras and fob watches, but not in scope mounts. The screws clamping the rings of German scope mounts are usually DIN M 3.5mm size, very similar to your 6-48 size. They usually use a 2.5 mm Allen key, if Allen head.

Thanks. I wrote the measurements down a while back. No decimal points and not converted to metric. So the correct Allen wrench is 2.5 mm. They are about 2.5 mm in diameter. The heads are about 5 mm in diameter and they are about 10 mm long. As my old surveying professor used to say," Boy, you are real precise but darned inaccurate."

        Blackfly,
To answer your question; Victor Machinery Exchange, Inc. carries a wide variety of metric fasteners, taps, and dies. Their website is: www.victornet.com, or if you call 1-800-723-5359 they will send a free catalog. On the otherhand, my experience is the about the same as Axle's, in that common 6-48 screws fit the German rings I have.
