      flagger,
Subject to a "hands on" inspection by a competent gunsmith, your gun should be fine to shoot. It is chambered for the old standard 12 ga shells, which are a little shorter than todays 2 3/4" standard. Some people buy short shells, some rechamber, and still others disregard the difference and use standard shells. When you have it inspected, have him measure the chambers to see if your dad had it changed. There are a lot of disagreements over the best course of action, so discuss it with the gunsmith be fore deciding what you want to do.Don't be fooled by the fact that a standard shell will chamber, if fired the shell will unfold into the forcing cone ahead of the chamber.

Looks like June of 1931, but as usual the thumbnails are difficult to manage. Interesting encircled S&S on the aft lug.

          Cheers,

Raimey, how in the world did you make that mark show up? Even after you flagged it, I can't make it out.

Ford, I took that ruddy thumbnail image & ran it thru an image enhancer & then scanned the areas where a date code is known to have been applied.

              Cheers,

If I may ask, what is the serial number of your Model 8 made in June, 1931? The photo of the top of the receiver with the butt stock being shown also, leads me to believe you need to tighten the buttstock against the receiver. I don't like the gaps between the wood the the steel. Thanks much, Jim
