  • Drilling Question - Rifle Caliber

Hello, I'm posting again about the drilling I just bought. The seller says the rifle caliber is 7x57R, but I want to be sure, so will there be any marks on the gun that will confirm this? And if so, what do I look for?

    Thanks so much!!!!

Take the gun aapart. Look at the underside of the rifle barrel for the proofmarks. If proofed before 1940, there should be the crown/B, crown/U, crown/G and a crown/N proofmarks. Beneath these stamps there should be the numbers 7.0mm and 57, if it is a 7x57R with .284" = 7.2mm bullet diameter. If it reads fi 7.8mm/57 it is a 8x57IR. If you find other numbers, post a photo. On a gun proofed after 1940, you will find an Eagle/N proofmark and the full cartridge designation "7x57R".

Oops! forgot about it: "If it reads fi 7.8mm/57 it is a 8x57IR or a 8x57R360, a slimmer case.

Why don't you have the barrel slugged and a chamber cast made just to be sure.
