  • Need Info On A Data String

Hello all, well I got the C. Goluch 16ga hammergun I posted about prior. I was wondering if someone could decipher the series of numbers on the lower rib by the bbl lug. Here it is:

    1499.31.158

    Any help would be great!

    Thanks!

It would be helpful if you posted photos of the proof marks, including this data string. The photo you showed on the other thread seems to be of a different gun. I think this gun was the 1499 th proofed in 1931, but I can't decipher the 158 without a photo. There were different proofhouses and photos of the proof marks would be necessary to determine in which proofhouse this gun was the 1499th one proofed in 1931. I am in no way as knowledgeable about this as Axel is. Maybe he will weigh in with better info.

Hello Mike and thanks again!!! following link has pics of the bbl flats etc:

      http://www.germanguns.com/upload/sho...16ga-Hammergun

The series of numbers are by the forend latch hook (not by the bbls lugs, sorry!) and they read exactly 1499.31.158

They are by themselves with no other markings by them. Can't get a good clear pics of them, sorry.

      Thanks again!!!!

Hi Mike, this is the gun I was asking about. The series of numbers that I'd like to know about are not in the pictures shown on the link. The numbers I'd like to know about are on the rib by the forend hook (1499.31.158) and are not pictured.

What I'm trying to find out is this gun made by Franz Sodia and maketed by Carl Golouch and what model number it maybe.

          Thanks again so much!

            Greg,
The numbers given are proof serial number. They would be stamped with proof serial number after Provisional proof and also Definitive proof, with different numbers, unless the gun carried a factory number, in which case the proof serial number would be omitted. I refer you to "The Story of European Proof Marks Chapter VII. The Development of Proof in Austria-Hungary- with the proof rules and marks of Czechoslovakia and Hungary, and some notes on proof in Czarist Russia", by A., Baron Engelhardt. This is found in 13th Annual Edition(1959) of Gun Digest. With the photos and numbers supplied, it is not possible to positively ID the maker or mod. of this gun.The numbers were placed by the proof house, not the maker and do not ID it. If you think it was made by Franz Sodia, The GGCA has a reprint of an old F.Sodia catalogue for sale. You might find it helpful if the gun was made by Franz Sodia. If it was made by another Sodia, it wouldn't apply.
            Mike
