  • Old German Gun (2)

I am adding more photos of the old German Gun that I posted previously in my first thread. Most people have said it is Pre 1930, but it was brought back after WWII. It does say Nitro on both barrels, cannot see that very well in the photos. If you have anymore questions, please write back! We are very curious about where it came from. Thanks, Sue.

To identify the gun, we need photos of ALL marks, stamps and numbers hidden under the barrels and on the action. You have to take the gun apart. remove foreend by pulling out the Deeley latch under foreend, open th gun and detach the barrels from action.

Axel, I have more pictures. The gun has been apart several times; I will try to attach the rest of the photos. It will only let me do 5 at a time. Sue.

The gun is dated: It was proofed 10.20 = October 1920 as gun number 664 of that month by the Zella-Mehlis proof house, so it was most likely made "for the trade" by one of the countless gunmakers there. perhaps one of the 42 gunmakers named Hengelhaupt there, the "star/H" mark may point that direction. I cannot see the word Nitro in your photos. If Nitro is in script letters, the Zella-Mehlis origin is verified. If I am wrong and Nitro is in straight, block letters the gun is of Suhl origin.

Axel, I will find out about the Nitro lettering. Do you have any idea of the value? Is there anything else you would need to identify it? I do not have internet at my house so I probably will not answer until Monday. Thanks for the help! Sue.

I have suspicions that at a minimum components were sourced from Haenel. Post images of the water table & standing breech

            Cheers,

I did post several other pictures in previous posts. If that is not what you need, then I will have to take some more pictures. We tried to get every angle and every symbol that we could find. I will take some more in the next day or so. Thanks, SUe.

Frustrating and fun at the same time, eh Sue?

Isn't the "Star H" mark that of the barrel (vs. the gun maker) ?

I ask this because I have a combination gun with the same barrel markings, but the receiver is marked EHS (Ernst Schneider in Z-M). It was proofed in 1927.
