Glad you had a good hunt. My congratulations to the young man!! That's a big deer anywhere. Who was more proud, father or son?

I fired 3 rounds of the duplex load....no idea on velocity but assume about the 1300-1400 range....just felt that way, (that's accurate, isn't it...lol), the accuracy seemed to suffer and was definitely less than the Unique load.

I have that book and very well remember the article on the 38-55 because it was that particular article that sort of fueled an interest in the old cartridge...which I have yet to work with one of my own. Helped a friend with his very old '94 one time but only for about a half day. I will peruse the book yet again....good book.

34 grs. of IMR-3031....hmmm. That's the same powder charge I used in a Sharps 45-70 under a 450 gr. cast bullet and the same weight charge I use in the 9.3 X 75R. I believe I am getting close to 1700 fps. with a 200 gr. cast bullet in the 9.3.....I shall have to compare volumes of the 9.3 and this "30US X 9mm" case....I don't know what else to call the blamed thing....lol! If I had 4198 I'd try that 31 gr. load as I know I used 28 grs. in a Trapdoor under a 420 gr. Lyman bullet. This drilling is surely a bit stronger than the hoary old Trapdoor.

    Sure keeps the wheels turning!!!

      Vic,
as your rechamber job is quite close to the 9.3x72R capacity wise, shorter but fatter, I would try to use pressure tested 9.3x72R loads as a guide. The DEVA handbook gives these loads, all using Tesco type soft copper jacket 193 gr bullets.
      37 gr IMR 3031, 1970 fps, pressure 1722 bar.
      46 gr VV N140, 1970 fps, 1667 bar
      29.5 gr SR 4759, 1985 fps, 2000 bar (max).
As 4895 is about in between 3031 and N140, very close to N140, I would use up to 42 gr with that powder.
As you are probably not familiar with the bar pressure units, the max average pressure for the essentially “nitro for black” 9.3x72R is 2000 bar, while the .30-06 is 4050 bar, .30-30 3200 bar.
With your barrel I would substitute the 9.3 193 gr bullets with soft jacketed .357 180 – 200 gr “pistol” bullets and regard the above powder charges as maximum.
