I saw a Remo combination gun today that is 16 gauge/7.7x57r. Is this 7.7x57r the same round as the .303 British? Also, how do Remo guns compare to Krieghoff guns as far as quality is concerned? This gun is in good mechanical and cosmetic condition but has the front sight missing, the forestock was cracked and gouged (but repaired with excellent workmanship), it has claw-mount bases (no rings), and worst of all...one of the previous owners did a very professional job of carving "Ch. Scl" on the right side of the butt-stock in letters about 2" tall! Any clue what it might be worth?? Rick Adamson

It is likely the Mauser 8x57JR but you ought to check the bore. Also, there shouldn't be anything wrong with the quality of the Remo. No clue on a value without more information. How about some pix?

The one Remo I saw was very fancy with game scenes.

Is the gun on face? Best way to tell is to remove the forend and see if there is any play between the barrels and the receiver.
Has the 16 ga chamber been opened to 2.75 inches?
A scope mount is going to cost approx $600 for the rings and to have it fitted, plus the cost the the scope.

If you take pictures the most informative pictures are of the proofs under the barrels and on the receiver.
