I guess that is partly my fault, Axel...and you're right.

Axel, there may be a case of the pot calling the kettle black. I chose 2 & you chose 1 to propagate. I really don't think GGCA has the foundation for the long haul. NE probably is best as they archive most of their photos. Although DGS does not do that, I think Dave at DGS has the proper tools. I'd put my eggs in the DGS BBS for the long haul.
Kind Regards,

I don't claim to be any expert of what site has a survivable foundation, but the main portion of this site is very good in my opinion, even if the forum is not packed, and to have obtained a 501c3 go's past just another internet forum and into solid foundation, again, my opinion
Its also my opinion posting disbelief in a forum your participating in is less than supportive for longevity of the site, sometimes things work opposite so it may not be all bad, but kind regards becomes real empty combined with an insult
again, my opinion
Kind regards

Robert, I didn't say disbelief but from what I know about it there just is not the foundation. If you know more, please inform me. Who maintains the site; do GGCA have it's own server, how much server space & thru-put do we have, etc. Show me many other posters that have invested more time & effort in attempting to help others. I personally have ridden the GGCA for over 10 years and I think some Johnny come lately to make a broad statement as you have is short sighted/sited.
Cheers,
Raimey

Robert, & while we are on the subject, who maintains the site; what are his credentials, how often does he perform maintenance checks, is he full time, part time or contract labour, what are his hourly rates, how much have we spent on his efforts. Inquiring minds wish to know. GGCA is not any better in divulging expenses that when Dietrich was at the helm from this perspective. Step up to the plate & make the answers known.
Cheers,

For whatever it is worth(not much, I would guess), I enjoy the other sites; but my loyalty is with the GGCA. When I log on, it is the first site I go to.The work on this site, as I understand, is volunteer work(no pay), maybe you could give some of it a try. I agree with Axel, that working the same question through two or three forums is hard, but it usually works out. Also I have great respect for Dietrich and for what he did for us at great cost to himself.

An all volunteer site has the highest probability of failure. And I don't know if any of you realize it, but we are not going to live forever. So if this effort commenced by Dietrich as a lifelong dream and money pit is going to be propagated into the future, why would you not have a parallel thread on a GGCA sanctioned site that has a much higher probability of sustainability? I for one am not going to allow the effort to fall into disarray. Another thing that is not apparent is that how may posters are actually GGCA members?
Cheers,

Raimey,
I don’t care about such niceties like servers, pic saving and so on. As a member of the GGCA since spring 1999, when Dietrich made it known to me at the IWA, my intention is to support the GGCA and their forum whenever possible. IMHO this forum should grow to be the ultimate answer to all questions regarding German and Austrian guns.
I do like the nitroexpress.com forum too, as it caters to my personal interests more than others. I am mostly interested in hunting rifles, period. Mausers, Mannlichers, Mannlicher-Schoenauers, double rifles, ballistics, reloading and so on, not confined to continental ones, but British too. Mostly gentlemen are disputing there in a proper manner. Sometimes a bloke who is insulting others is thrown out.
Out of general interest I sometimes visit the dgs forum too, as you know. But I don’t really like it. Too many fools posting there, who propagate part-wisdom, errors, misconceptions and plain bs. I especially like some guys who pretend to write some jokes in, what they think, is "German". I often have to translate that back into English, word by word, to get the meaning.
But I simply hate double posting. Too often the same question landed at my feet several times, first via the GGCA, then through at least 2 forums, finally sent by Dietrich. That “copy and paste” business is simply wasting time.
Waidmannsheil!
