  • Drillings for sale

For those looking for a good working drilling, Simpson Ltd. has a "White Tag"sale on all items that are not on consignment, until the end of the week. There is a 10% reduction in price, which is significant. I noted they also have an Einstecklauf, but unfortunately it is in 12ga. I don't have a dog in this fight and will gain nothing if they sell all of them.

I've bought a few guns from Simpson's and all I can say is read the description very carefully. Talk to a salesman, they will pull the gun off the shelf and answer any question you have about it. They don't always know the answer other than what they've been told, I bought a drilling recently and was assured it was a 6.5x40R Sauer, it turned out to be a 6.5x58R Sauer and was so stamped on the barrel. There were a couple of other semi-serious flaws that weren't noted but were fairly easy fixes for me and they did give me a great price, a few hundred under the asking price. One of the others was much better than described and a real prize, if I sold it now with a test target in the ad I'm sure I could double my investment but I like it so much it will be with me a long time.

If my gun fund weren't so depleted right now there is one there that looks like a dog but would be perfect for me.

      Oskar,
My experience has been pretty much like yours. If the gun isn't shown "as is", they will take it back w/o a lot of trouble. I got a couple that were different caliber than listed, but I didn't have one of the actual calibers, so I just kept them. A friend bought a combo gun that had one of the locking lugs broken off, but they took it back and replaced it with one that was actually better. As long as they stand behind the description, I can't complain too much.

They had just received a shipment when I was there last month which included some nice Sauer doubles and a drilling or two. I am kicking myself for not grabbing one of the drillings then; it had a small ding in the right barrel near the muzzle but that was more than compensated for in the price. Had I felt more confident in my ability to repair it myself, it definitely would have come home with me. Someone is going to get a peach of a deal on that.

Are they importing guns from Germany that the families are being forced to sell?

The current German laws require that the guns be sold if no one has the proper permits within 30 days of the death of the owner. Thus a glut of guns on the German market.

This shipment came from a buyer who shops all across Europe.
